The BJP has decided to deploy all its Jat leaders and has been cautious ever since Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Rakesh Tikait welled up in tears.
Under the guise of farmers’ unrest, the opposition is trying to make its way through the Jat community, which has a strong influence on 50 Assembly seats in western Uttar Pradesh. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has become wary of the opposition’s attempts and plans to send Union Minister Sanjeev Balyan and other Jat leaders to counter the opposition, the sources said.
The BJP has decided to deploy all its Jat leaders and has been cautious ever since Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Rakesh Tikait stood tearfully and tried to turn farmers’ agitation into a fight for the Jats self-respect.
Union Minister Sanjeev Balyan would now lead the BJP’s public outreach campaign (Jan Sampark), interacting with the Jat community in western UP. The interesting thing is that BJP’s Sanjeev Balyan belongs to the same ‘Jat Khap’ as Rakesh Tikait.

BJP National Vice President Saudan Singh held a meeting of all Western UP Jat leaders at Sanjeev Balyan’s residence on Wednesday. At this meeting it was said that, under the pretext of peasant agitation, the opposition is busy promoting their political interests. The Jats have been voting for the BJP in western Uttar Pradesh during the last elections and now the opposition is mobilizing the Jats against the saffron party under the pretext of farmer agitation.
In this situation, the BJP that goes head-on among the Jats has to clarify that neither the new agricultural laws are against the farmers nor the party is against the interests of the farmers. In all ‘Khaps’ in western UP, the BJP will conduct public outreach campaigns by holding panchayats. The meeting was attended by the BJP co-head of Uttar Pradesh and the party’s national secretary, Satya Kumar, Uttar Pradesh’s co-organization minister Karmaveer, and all prominent Western UP legislators.
According to sources, it was also discussed at the meeting that Rakesh Tikait is trying to become the face of Jats through panchayats that are held in various places so that the BJP leaders have to think about this issue.
A BJP leader who participated in the meeting told IANS: “Union Interior Minister Amit Shah and BJP President JP Nadda met Tuesday night to warn party leaders about the conspiracies hatched by the opposition under the pretext of farmer agitation. At today’s meeting, a comprehensive public outreach strategy was outlined among the western UP Jats. All MPs, MLAs and ministers of the BJP would intensify the campaigns of Public outreach. The benefits of the new farm laws would be explained to the Jats and farmers. “
