Brazil's Bolsonaro admitted to the hospital after feeling discomfort

Brazil’s Bolsonaro admitted to the hospital after feeling discomfort.

BRASILIA: According to his Communications Minister Fabio Faria, Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro was sent to the hospital for tests on Monday after experiencing abdominal “discomfort.”

“He’s well,” Faria told Reuters, confirming earlier reports in the local press that the president had been transferred to the Army Hospital in Brasilia for testing.

According to Faria, the president felt poorly and went to the hospital to be evaluated because he has a history of intestinal blockages.

He’ll be kept in the hospital overnight for observation.

Bolsonaro was admitted to the hospital in January with an intestinal obstruction that was removed without surgery. The blockage was his latest ailment following a stabbing in the stomach during a 2018 campaign visit.

He’s had six operations since then due to the stabbing and to treat a hernia in the damaged area.

In July of last year, he was admitted to the hospital after 11 days of hiccuping, with severe stomach aches that were managed without the need for surgery.

Bolsonaro, who began campaigning for re-election in October, was scheduled to attend a Republican Party political meeting but did not show up, according to local media.

Marcos Pereira, the party’s president, claimed during the ceremony that he had gone to the hospital because he was feeling ill, according to a Pereira aide.
