Trudeau also promised an additional USD 50 million in military aid for Ukraine and new penalties against Russian individuals and entities who provide indirect or direct military support to Russia.

“Today, I’m announcing further military assistance, drone cameras, satellite imagery, small guns, ammo, and other support, including demining operations funds,” he added.

“We’re also bringing forward fresh sanctions on 40 Russian individuals and five entities, billionaires, and close associates of the regime in the defense sector, all of whom are participating in Putin’s war,” according to the statement.

Trudeau visited Irpin, a hamlet outside of Kyiv that was the scene of severe fighting between Ukrainian and Russian troops before the Russians retreated in late March.

Trudeau also said Canada would reopen its embassy and provide USD 25 million to the United Nations’ World Food Program.
