Captain Amarinder Singh dismisses claims of his proposed meeting with Gandhis.

Former Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh on Sunday criticized a state minister’s claims regarding his likely meeting with the Gandhis and his return to Congress, saying it is not a matter of looking back.

He said one of the Punjab government ministers stated that he will meet with the president of the Congress, Sonia Gandhi, and the former head of the Congress, Rahul Gandhi, and will return to the party.

“These are malicious and mischievous assumptions apparently made with an ulterior motive,” Singh said in a statement. He reiterated that there is no doubt that he will never look back again.

The former prime minister said he is shaping his party and putting the finishing touches on the organizational structure.

“We are awaiting the registration of our party, the Punjab Lok Congress, by the Election Commission of India and the allocation of the party symbol,” he added.

Singh resigned from Congress on November 2 and accused Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra of plotting a “midnight conspiracy” to oust him from the state government.

He had resigned as prime minister in September amid a bitter power dispute with the head of the Punjab Congress, Navjot Singh Sidhu. Charanjit Singh Channi had replaced Amarinder Singh.
