Anubrata Mondal, a prominent member of the Trinamool Congress, was detained by the CBI today at his house in Bolpur, Bengal, for reportedly refusing to cooperate with the investigation into a case of cattle smuggling, an official said.
A CBI team that came to the residence of the Birbhum district president early today morning interrogated Mr. Mondal for about an hour before making their arrest, he said.
According to the officer speaking to Press Trust of India, “We have detained him for his lack of assistance in the probe into the livestock smuggling fraud.”
He said, “Mr. Mondal was transferred to a hospital for a medical check-up.
In the previous three days, the Trinamool leader had twice canceled his planned appearance before the primary investigation agency, alleging illness.
