Chong Wei’s donation will help the people living in Bukit Mertajam, says Health DG.
BUTTERWORTH: The donation of RM.234,000 towards the Bukit Mertajam Hospital for upgrading the work of Datuk Lee Chong Wei will use to help residents living in the area as per Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah.
“The Health Ministry and I thank and extend our appreciation to the Lee Chong Wei Foundation for the contribution to upgrade the Bukit Mertajam Hospital’s emergency unit,” said Dr. Noor Hisham in an email this Sat. (Sept 18)
Lee has donated RM234,000 towards this hospital as part of his foundation’s Sept 17 (Sept 17)
Bukit Mertajam MP Steven Sim Chee Keong stated that they would provide 32 beds in the hospital to accommodate Covid-19 patients.
“This increase in capacity at the Bukit Mertajam Hospital will enable serious Covid-19 cases. It will help to get early treatment while waiting to be transferred to the Penang Hospital’s intensive care unit,” said the doctor.
Sim expressed his thanks to Lee and added that work had already started to build the hospital’s capacity.
In July this year, the Bukit Mertajam Hospital was converted into a hybrid Covid-19 hospital due to the increasing number of patients within the state.
