Congress Says Democracy murdered in Bihar

Congress Says Democracy murdered in Bihar: On Wednesday, Congress alleged that “democracy has been assassinated” in Bihar after opposition lawmakers were allegedly mistreated by police within the state Assembly.

Unprecedented chaos erupted within the Bihar Assembly on Tuesday when police were called in to help bailiffs evict members of the opposition who allegedly tried to physically prevent the president from occupying his presidency. The upheaval was the result of a bill introduced in the House by the Nitish Kumar government, with a view to empowering the police force.

Despite opposition protests in front of the Assembly against what it called a “draconian” law, the Bihar Special Armed Police Bill of 2021 was passed in the State Assembly on Tuesday and will now be tabled in the Legislative Council.

Meanwhile, in a more recent event, an FIR was registered against RJD leaders Tejashwi Yadav, Tej Pratap Yadav, and other unidentified party workers, according to ANI.

Reacting to the entire episode, Congressional Leader Rahul Gandhi said on Wednesday that the “shameful” incident that unfolded in the Bihar Assembly has made it clear that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is firmly under the influence of the BJP and RSS.

Gandhi said that those who strip democracy have no right to call themselves a government.

“It is clear from the shameful events in the Bihar Assembly that the prime minister is firmly under the influence of the BJP and RSS. Those who strip democracy have no right to call themselves a government, ”Gandhi said in a Hindi tweet.

He said the opposition will continue to raise issues of public interest and fear nothing.

Congressional Chief Speaker Randeep Surjewala urged people to speak out against alleged police arrogance in Bihar, where the RJD and members of the United States Congress were allegedly assaulted and ill-treated by the police.

He said they were raising their voices against the passage of Bihar’s special armed police bill in the state assembly, which will empower the police to put anyone behind bars.

“Democracy was killed in Bihar and if the people of the country do not speak out now, there will be no democracy left in the country,” he told reporters.

Furthermore, he alleged that vandalism has become the order of the day by the JDU and the BJP in Bihar.

Congress Secretary-General Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also criticized the Nitish Kumar government for the action imposed on opposition lawmakers, saying that the BJP and its allies clearly do not respect democracy.

Tejashwi Yadav, also earlier in the day, tweeted a video of the Assembly where the police blocked the opposition MLAs.

“The draconian law that will grant absolute powers to the police, so that they can act as a true arm of Nitish’s dictatorial politics, has been passed in police protection by eliminating mistreated MLAs using the Police themselves. See how the police are blocking our MLAs inside the house. Shameless! ”He tweeted.

Tejashwi Yadav, his brother and former minister Tej Pratap Yadav, and more than 50 opposition leaders held a protest at the busy Dak Bungalow crossing in Patna on Tuesday against the bill. Later, the leaders requested the arrest after the police used water cannons to control the situation.
