Coronavirus India Updates: India’s Covid-19 count broke the 17-lakh mark on Sunday, just two days after exceeding 16-lakh. With 54,735 cases over a 24-hour span, the count has risen to 17.50,723, while the death toll has reached 37,364. This is the fourth day in a row that cases increase by more than 50,000.
The number of recoveries also crossed the 11 lakh mark to stand at 11.45,629. According to the ICMR, a cumulative total of 1.98,21,831 samples have been tested as of August 1, with 4.63,172 samples tested on Saturday alone. The recovery rate among Covid-19 patients has increased to 65.44 percent, while the death rate has further decreased to 2.13 percent.

Tamil Nadu Observes Strict Sunday Closing

ICMR plans to establish a COVID inpatient registry
A nationwide registry of hospitalized patients with coronavirus is being considered to collect real-time data that will help improve treatment outcomes, analyze trends in the progression of the pandemic and calibrate the response, authorities said, PTI reported.
The officials added that ICMR, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and AIIMS, is planning to establish the National Clinical Registry that will help researchers and policymakers understand the effectiveness of research therapies, the adverse effects that take place, and generate evidence to improve treatment.
“The goal is to collect data on Covid-19 hospitalized patients, such as clinical and laboratory characteristics, their demographic characteristics, comorbidities, treatment outcomes, complications, in all age groups, among others,” the officials said.
