Coronavirus (COVID-19) India News update: India reported 18,522 new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases in the country to 5.66,840, including 2.15,125 active cases and 3.34,822 recoveries. Up to 418 deaths were reported on Monday. The total death toll is now 16,893.

Madhya Pradesh Covid-19 cases cross 13,000

The total positive case count in Madhya Pradesh increased to 13,420 on Monday. With seven new deaths, the number of deaths increased to 564. The number of active cases is 2,607.

A three-day curfew was imposed in Morena, Madhya Pradesh, with immediate effect on Monday night, as the city witnessed a sudden increase in COVID-19 cases. The decision to impose the curfew within the boundaries of the Morena municipal corporation came in the wake of 57 new cases on Monday, bringing the total case count to 406, with up to 192 cases reported in the past six days.

Morena SP Anurag Sujania told The Indian Express that the curfew has been imposed on municipal boundaries to contain the spread of the infection, as most cases have been reported in those areas. He said that the entire population within the municipal limits will be examined. The municipal area is densely populated and shops are nearby.

Maharashtra, which has the highest number of coronavirus cases in the country, has extended the closure until July 31. Neighboring Ghaziabad reported the highest number of cases (70) with 39 recoveries and one death.

Bangalore continues to witness spike in cases

Bangalore continued to report an increase in Covid-19 cases, as 738 people tested positive on Monday, bringing the total to 4,052.

Karnataka reported 1,105 new cases, bringing the total number of coronavirus cases in the state to 14,295, with around 6,382 active cases. On Monday, 19 more deaths were reported, with a total of 230 deaths. According to the health department, the number of people in intensive care units (ICU) in Karnataka is 268.

Meanwhile, the Karnataka government held meetings with private hospitals on Monday to increase the number of hospital beds to treat Covid-19 patients.
