Court Slams Assam Cops On Jignesh Mevani: "We Will Become a Police State"

An Indian court has slammed the state police for trying to tie Gujarat MLA Jignesh Mevani to a “fabricated case” of assault on a woman constable.

An Assam court granted bail to Mevani on Tuesday, the same day that he was arrested on April 25 in a case where he was accused of “manufactured” assault. Mevani had just been granted bail in another Assam case over tweets about Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Barpeta sessions court asked the Gauhati High Court to take up a petition on its own against recent police abuses in the state. The Barpeta court granted Mr Mevani bail.

There is a BJP government in Assam, and Mevani has said that the party is behind his arrest because of the tweets he made about PM Modi and the alleged assault on the woman constable, which the court has now called a “manufactured case.”

When an accused person is taken into custody, the sessions court also told the Gauhati High Court that the Assam Police should wear body cameras and put CCTV cameras in their cars to record the events.

In the order, sessions court judge Justice Aparesh Chakraborty said that “convert[ing] our hard-earned democracy into a police state is just not possible.” Court: “If this case is true and the woman’s statement is true, which it isn’t, then we’ll have to change the country’s criminal law,” said the court. This is what the court said.

“Before the magistrate, the woman told a different story from the first report.

In light of the woman’s testimony, this case is made to keep Jignesh Mevani in prison for a long time, abuse the court process, and break the law. “The court said that.

“To stop false FIRs like this one from being filed, the Gauhati High Court may want to tell the Assam Police to make every officer wear body cameras, install CCTV in cars when they arrest someone, and so on. This is a common practice in the state.

Because if we don’t, our country will become a police state, which is not suitable for society, “It said that the session’s court said.

After he was freed, Mevani said the BJP used a woman to “frame a case” against him, “cowardly.” “As you can see, my arrest was not an easy thing to deal with. If it was done at the PMO (Prime Minister’s Office), it must have been done with the help of political leaders there. “On Friday, Mr Mevani told.

“When they made up a story for the second case, they used the woman to frame it. To hurt me, the government used a woman. This act is so cowardly. “The MLA from Gujarat said that the ruling BJP is doing all this with the Gujarat election in mind, held later this year.
