Covid-19 Cases Rising Rapidly In Delhi, No Signs Of Slow Down: Satyendar Jain

COVID-19 cases are increasing very rapidly every day and there is “no slowdown” in the spread of the pandemic in the national capital, Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain said on Wednesday.

However, the minister reiterated that the lockdown was not a solution to the situation and recommended that people go out only if necessary, avoid meetings, wear masks and follow the appropriate COVID-19 behavior to combat the disease.

“Yesterday Delhi recorded 13,468 cases and we also conducted about 1.2 lakh of tests. The numbers are increasing and increasing rapidly every day, and there is no slowdown in the spread of the infection. Therefore, I will recommend people to leave only if it is urgent and necessary, “he told reporters here.

Jain said that between 70 and 80 patients are admitted to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital daily.

About 80 people were admitted to the Rajiv Gandhi Superspecialty Hospital on Tuesday night, he said, adding that the cases were growing very fast.

The minister said the number of beds in various hospitals has been increased while adding that the city government has again asked the center to increase the number of beds in its hospitals.

Later, orders were issued on linking banquet halls and hotels with hospitals to meet additional bedding requirements as needed, he said.

In a statement later in the day, Mr. Jain said Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was directly monitoring the situation of beds and facilities available to patients in Delhi’s government-run hospitals.

“The Delhi government has strengthened the available infrastructure and is fully equipped to fight the virus. I ask everyone to only opt for hospital admissions when they need it,” said the Health Minister.

The statement also said that Jain visited LNJP Hospital on Wednesday to meet with patients’ families, receive their comments, review the facilities, and encourage staff and doctors.

Instructions have been issued to keep enough ICU beds available for COVID-19 patients. Hygiene is paramount and must be maintained at all times, he said.

During the visit, the minister said: “Delhi is experiencing an unprecedented increase. In view of the same, I visited patients at LNJP Hospital. LNJP has treated the maximum number of patients in India. Doctors and staff have I’ve been working very hard and I am very grateful for your dedication. ”

“Management has been directed to ensure a speedy admission process for seriously ill patients. The hospital must ensure that there is no refusal of patients. It must monitor that there are enough ICU beds available for Covid patients,” Jain said.

Reeling under the fourth wave of COVID-19, the national capital on Tuesday recorded the highest peak of 13,468 cases and 81 deaths, giving it the dubious distinction of being the worst-hit city in the county.

The highest single-day peak in Mumbai stands at 9,986 cases to date, followed by Bengaluru (6,387 cases), Chennai (2,105), and Kolkata (1,271 cases).

On Tuesday, the positivity rate rose to 13.14 percent from 12.44 percent a day ago.

The daily death toll of 81 deaths Tuesday was the highest in the city since Dec. 3, when 82 people died from the disease. The national capital had recorded 131 deaths from COVID-19 on Nov. 18, the highest single-day death count to date.

From April 4 to April 13, Delhi recorded 77,775 COVID-19 cases, representing a massive 234 percent increase. During the same period, 376 people have died from the disease.

Jain said that while COVID Care Centers are operational, people prefer to go to hospitals or be isolated in their homes.

Of the 5,525 beds in these centers, only 286 are occupied, he added.

On the increase in cases and deaths, said the minister, “the numbers have increased and even a single death is regrettable. But we are also doing the largest amount of tests in the country.”
