Deadly Gas Leak in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh: 200 women fall ill from the ammonia. 

Visakhapatnam: A leak of ammonia gas from a neighboring industrial unit sickened around 200 women employees at the Atchutapuram SEZ here on Friday evening. Workers were vomiting and gasping for air, causing panic and uncertainty.

Approximately two dozen ambulances were sent to transport the injured to hospitals. The disaster occurred days after a fire broke out in an industrial facility in the port city earlier this week.

After inhaling ammonia, around 200 ladies complained of acute nausea, vomiting, and shortness of breath, according to the police. 

The afflicted people were sent to different hospitals for emergency medical treatment. The gas is believed to have spilled from Porus Industries, located a short distance from the SEZ.

Anakapalli, Chodavaram, and Rambilli are the most affected places. The affected employees’ health is believed to be stable. So doctors say there’s no need to be concerned.

The leak happened about 2.15 p.m., according to the police. Firefighters were able to get the situation under control by spraying water to decrease the effect of the thick smoke.

YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, the chief minister, has ordered an investigation into the event. He called authorities to offer greater care to those who were afflicted. 

Jagan demanded that authorities take steps to avoid such tragedies. He ordered Gudivada Amarnath, the industry minister, to go to the accident scene.

The majority of those impacted, according to Amarnath, have been released from hospitals. He said that eight persons are being treated at KGH. 

The second shift was canceled by all businesses in the neighborhood of Porus Industries.

“We’re checking to see whether the gas came from Porus Industries. We’ve already started an investigation. Many of the afflicted were admitted to NTR hospital in Anakapalli, where 15 experts were dispatched,” According to the minister.

According to the authorities, numerous female Seeds Company employees in Brandix SEZ complained of nausea and headaches. 

Around 20 ambulances transported the injured to Yalamanchili and Anakapalli hospitals. Ravi Pattansetty, the Anakapalli district collector, oversaw the rescue and relief efforts.
