Deepika Kumari has opportunity to obtain gold medal in Olympic
26-year-old Deepika is also a veteran of two Olympics. The world archery federation’s description of the match noted that the much-loved figure in the sport, due to her prodigious talent since bursting onto the scene as a star at age 16, has been shooting “more solid than spectacular” at the reach the individual final. Disappointments litter the last decade, but there is a courageous determination that those who watch it continue to seek in their game as other Games constantly creep on the horizon with all the uncertainty associated with them. However, amid the chaos, the archers seek to regain their nerves and aim for the yellow circle, dreaming of the gold record in July in Tokyo.
Deepika has two individual World Cup gold medals – in Antalya in 2012, in what seems like a debut title a decade away. Her last was in Salt Lake City in 2018. He also has 6 silver medals.
But for a decorated archer of her caliber, while a depleted gold in this field won’t increase her stature, it will definitely boost her confidence to overcome tough challenges.

Team matters
However, it is in the team finals that Deepika is expected to do her thing. With the world powers of Korea, China, and Taipei not traveling, India is lining up against hosts Mexico, not a crushing team by any means. However, the Indians that makeup Deepika along with the young Ankita Bhakat and Komalika Bari start out as favorites.
India has a historical legacy in women’s team events with 4 gold medals, but Deepika has always had seniors like Dola Banerjee, Bombayala Devi, Laxmi Majhi and Chekrovolu Swuro around her for the last 15 years. This time, she is a senior and is expected to take on the responsibility of shepherding the young inexperienced teammates.
In addition to Alejandra Valencia, Mexico has Pan American champion Ana Vázquez, an exuberant and super confident goalkeeper who delights when she shoots in front of her home team. Vázquez is also known for her celebratory jigs that send crowds of worshipers screaming and shouting cheers, though the atmosphere will be fairly calm as the sport seems to get off the mark while holding off a virus.
Indian archers received their vaccinations early last month, but sports are still eager and bleak. Still, Guatemala is the playing field of the rivals. And Deepika is expected to put all her experience into play.
She will have a special grudge score to settle against the Mexicans who dumped the Indian mixed team of Deepika and Atanu Das, in a playoff for a place in the final. So Deepika-Atanu will fight the United States for bronze on Sunday morning.
However, the women’s team is eager to get in shape before June, when they head to the final Olympic qualification in Paris. Indian women’s teams have not missed the Games in the last decade. So there is pressure to do it this time.
“It is important because we are not yet qualified (for the Olympics). That is why it is very important that we film well and improve as quickly as possible ”, PTI quoted Deepika. “If we win, our confidence level will increase. If we shoot well here, we will be confident and shoot well in the next event. And then we will gain more confidence and shoot better. ”
Standing next to her is junior world champion Komalika Bari, a nice laid-back contrast to her senior’s nervous disposition. She was quoted as saying: “I fit in well (on the team)… I’m better now and I feel more confident. They only shoot in 10 seconds and I just have to keep it yellow to win. ”

She is a freelance blogger, writer, and speaker, and writes for various entertainment magazines.
