Deepika Padukone resigns as MAMI president

Actor Deepika Padukone has decided to “step aside” from the duties of president of the Mumbai Academy of Moving Image (MAMI). The actress, who took office in 2019, claimed that her “job list” is the reason she took the step. Deepika, calling the experience “enriching”, stated that her bond with MAMI “will last a lifetime.”

On Monday, the actress took to her social media platforms to share the news. “Being on the MAMI board and serving as president has been a deeply enriching experience. As an artist, it was inspiring to bring together cinema and talent from around the world in Mumbai, my second home.

However, I have come to realize that with my current work plan, I will not be able to give MAMI the undivided focus and attention it requires. I leave knowing that MAMI is in the best possible hands and that my bond and connection with the academy is one that will last a lifetime, ”he wrote in a note.

At MAMI 2019, Deepika made her first appearance as the president of the film festival.

During his opening speech, he said: “Cinema has the power to make us less alone when we are. In the era of digital broadcasting and social media that is slowly but surely isolating us, the Mumbai Academy of Moving Images (MAMI) unites us without limits, inhibitions, and most importantly, without fear. As an artist who truly believes in the power of cinema, I say we need it more than ever. ”

On the job front, Deepika will have a special role in Ranveer Singh’s 83. He is currently filming for Shakun Batra’s untitled project, which also stars Ananya Pandey and Siddhant Chaturvedi. Deepika also announced the official Hindi remake of The Intern in which she will star alongside Amitabh Bachchan. The two of them had previously worked on Piku.
