The suspect was employed as a security guard for an organization located in Dubai in the UAE, responsible for storing the possessions belonging to a late Argentinian footballer, police said.
The suspect is believed to have been responsible for the theft of the safe in which Hublot’s limited-edition Hublot watch was also stored, director-general of Police Bhaskar Jyoti Mahata said.
He stated in a couple of days in the company and then returning home to Assam in August and taking leave, claiming that his father was sick.
The Assam Police swung into action after Dubai Police reached out to India for information on the suspect, the officer explained.
The accused was detained from his home at 4 am, and the watch was seized, the accused claimed.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said it was an operation that involved the international coordination of officers of both countries.
Additional legal action was taking place against the accused was also being prosecuted, he said.
