DPIIT secretary Guruprasad Mohapatra dies of Covid 19.

Gujarat IAS cadre officer and secretary of the Department for the Promotion of Industry and Domestic Trade (DPIIT), Guruprasad Mohapatra, passed away on Saturday due to complications related to Covid.

“Mohapatra was admitted to AIIMS on April 18 after contracting the new coronavirus. He was in the hospital for more than a month and a half and had recovered, “said a senior official in Delhi.

Before assuming the position of secretary of DPIIT, Mohapatra had served as president of the Airports Authority of India. Mohapatra, a 1986 IAS officer from Gujarat, was one of the officers who moved to Delhi after Narendra Modi became Prime Minister.

“Saddened by the passing of Dr. Guruprasad Mohapatra, Secretary of the DPIIT. I had worked a lot with him in Gujarat and at the Center. He had a great knowledge of administrative matters and was known for his innovative zeal. Condolences to your family and friends. Om Shanti, ”PM Modi tweeted.

Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani also took to the microblogging site to express his condolences, saying the state has lost a capable officer.

Originally from Bhubaneswar in Odisha, he had a master’s degree in political science from Jawaharlal Nehru University. His first major position in Gujarat was as Surat Municipal Commissioner between 1999 and 2002. He also held important positions, including Managing Director of Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals Ltd in Vadodara, Commissioner of the Business Tax Department, and Municipal Commissioner of Ahmedabad.

His first assignment in Delhi was between 2014 and 2016 as Deputy Secretary of the Department of Commerce and Industry.
