During the Omicron wave Germany saw a record number of Covid-19-related infections

During the Omicron wave, Germany saw a record number of Covid-19-related infections.

Berlin: Germany’s seven-day Covid-19 rate was over 600. 638.8 new infections were reported per 100,000 people, according to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI).

The more contagious Omicron version is spreading throughout Europe. Daily infections in Germany have also risen to a new record.

Xinhua reported that 133,536 cases were recorded within 24 hours, around 52,000 more than a week earlier, citing RKI.

Minister of Health Karl Lauterbach said that the peak in the Omicron wave in Germany has not yet been reached.

However, Lauterbach said Wednesday that the wave would peak around mid-February and that he expects “several 100,000 cases per hour.”

Lauterbach, who wanted to prioritize employees in the healthcare sector because of a shortage of laboratory polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests, is preparing a proposal to do so this weekend.

“We will receive such high cases that we will need to distribute PCR test, prioritize.”

According to the latest figures from the Association of Accredited Laboratories in Medicine, almost 2,000,000 PCR tests were conducted in Germany in a week. One in four of these tests yielded positive results.
