Early polls likely in state if BJP wins in West Bengal
A Gujarati minister claimed on Sunday that Assembly elections in the state could be brought forward by the end of 2022 if the BJP wins in West Bengal.
Elections in the eastern state will be held in eight phases starting on March 27, while the vote count will be on May 2. The term of the current Gujarat Assembly is until December next year.
Speaking to journalists in Umargam, in the southern Gujarat district of Valsad, the State Minister of Forest and Tribal Affairs, Raman Patkar, said: “When the BJP is winning everywhere, the parliamentary party board and the State and national leaders understand that it is better to hold elections … And if the BJP wins in West Bengal, the announcement (for the polls in Gujarat) can be made in no time. ”
