Kolkata: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday removed a rank SP official assigned to the security of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, an official said.
The move against Asoke Chakraborty, a special duty officer (OSD) in a former cadre position at the rank of the police superintendent, is believed to have been due to “security breaches” that led to Banerjee’s foot injury. at Nandigram last month. , he said.
“He is removed from office with immediate effect,” said the official from the state director general’s office.
Banerjee sustained the injury after a fall while campaigning in his Nandigram constituency on March 10. Since then, she has been seeking votes for her party sitting in a wheelchair.
The survey panel previously suspended Banerjee’s chief security officer, Vivek Sahay, following the incident.
The ECI, in order, also attached Ajeet Singh Yadav, SP of the Counter Insurgency Force, to the Howrah Police Commissioner, “in view of the sensitivity of the Assembly election in Howrah district in phase 4” Saturday.
