New Delhi: Actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was ordered to appear before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for a money-laundering investigation connected to the Panama Papers leak on Monday (December 20).

The actress is scheduled to appear before the agency later today to make a statement or request a different date.

In the past, the 48-year-old was summoned twice. But she had sought the help of the probing agency for additional time.

According to ANI, the money-laundering matter by the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002 (PMLA) has been filed with the ED in this regard.

The Panama Papers are 11.5 million documents that were leaked that were obtained from the secret documents that belong to Mossack Fonseca, a law firm with its headquarters in the tax haven Panama.

The papers expose customers of the law firm as well as their dealings. Mossack Fonseca’s business included investing in shell companies to aid individuals in avoiding tax.

The information for more than 2,14,488 people was first released on April 3, 2016, by Suddeutsche Zeitung. It contained over 300 Indians.

Other than Aishwarya Rai Amitabh Bachchan and Ajay Devgn’s name have also been pumped up in the controversy.
