The Election Commission of India will organize a review session on Monday to discuss the continued application of the prohibition on rallies that are physically held and roadshows in light of the upcoming elections for the assembly.
Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra will meet Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan today.
The ECI will also be meeting with Health Secretaries and Chief Secretaries of states with a mandate to vote on a virtual basis.
With a rise in COVID-19-related cases, the Election Commission of India on January 22 extended the prohibition on physical rallies and roadshows until January 31.
It was reported that the Election commission had put a prohibition on rallyings for elections and roadshows from January 15th, which was later extended until January 22.
The polling body was given a stipulation on January 22 to hold public meetings in physical form by political parties and contest candidates in Phase 1 starting January 28 and Phase 2 beginning January 1.
The limit for the door-to-door campaign is ten people, except the security staff and vans to promote permitted in open spaces, subject to COVID limitations.
Elections for the five states’ Assembly will occur between February 10 and March 7th, according to the Election Commission of India informed earlier this month, when it announced the election schedule in the five states Goa, Manipur, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. The count of the votes will be conducted on March 10.
