Ellen DeGeneres Buys A Coastal California Mansion with USD 21 Million.
Last Thursday, Ellen DeGeneres paid USD 20.95 million for a sprawling residence west of Santa Barbara on the Southern California coast.
According to PropertyShark records, the daytime TV talk show personality and comedian, 64, purchased the 2.45-acre property via a trust tied to one of her long-time business managers.
According to The Wall Street Journal, the almost 12,000-square-foot estate located in the celebrity-favored hotspot Montecito initially went on the market in late 2019 for $35 million.
It resurfaced in April 2021 at a much lower price of $24.85 million, then was reduced to $21.5 million in January.
The home’s architecture is inspired by the Alhambra castle in Granada, Spain, and has thin columns, horseshoe arches, and tilework throughout, as seen in listing images.
According to The Journal, a rotunda entrance with a hand-carved marble fountain, a wood-coffered library, steel Corinthian columns, hammam-inspired bathrooms, and old tiled flooring with radiant heat.
“It’s a beautiful design,” said Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices California Properties selling agent Nancy Kogevinas. However, she remained tight-lipped about the buyer.
According to the story, Kinka Usher, 62, a director of television advertisements, had the house erected in 2014.
On a boyhood excursion to Spain, Mr. Usher was inspired by the Alhambra, constructed principally between 1238 and 1358.
According to PropertyShark records, Mr. Usher purchased the underlying property for $5.8 million in 2010.
He told The Journal that he spent two years and millions of dollars creating the mansion, designing the ideas himself.
Almost all of the flooring was imported from Europe, and he spent around $400,000 creating a swimming pond on the property.
A request for comment from Mr. Usher for this piece was not immediately returned.
Ms. DeGeneres, whose talk show of the same name is due to expire after 19 seasons this year, and her wife, actress Portia de Rossi, 49, are no strangers to Montecito.
They paid $49 million for comedian Dennis Miller’s 4-acre mansion there in December 2020 and had previously offered their Bali-inspired house there for almost $40 million.
They advertised a Beverly Hills home they acquired from Maroon 5’s Adam Levine for $53.5 million a year ago.
