Emanuel Macron says Putin chose the war in Ukraine. 

President Emmanuel Macron said on Wednesday that the Russian government was spreading “lies” to justify a war in Ukraine. 

Still, he said he would keep in touch with President Vladimir Putin to try and get a ceasefire in Ukraine. 

As European leaders have worked together to avoid conflict, Emmanuel Macron has been in charge. He visited Vladimir Putin in Moscow last month and mediated over the phone between Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky and the Russian leader.

In a speech to the French people, Macron said: “It is by himself, breaking his international promises one by one, that President Putin chose war.” He called Zelenskiy the face of “honor, freedom, and courage.”

“This war is not between the West and Russia, as some people would like us to think. It’s a fight between people from all over the world. It doesn’t look like there is a NATO base in Ukraine. These aren’t true. In this case, Russia is the aggressor, not the aggressor. This war is not about Nazism. It’s a lie,” Macron also said that.

Russia says it is taking part in a “special military operation,” which it says aims to get rid of Ukraine’s weapons and capture “neo-Nazis” who Putin says is running it.

When Macron said this, he talked less than two months before the French presidential election, which he hadn’t yet announced his candidacy for. He said he would fight for France’s values and place globally.

The price of energy will go up, and that will affect the French economy.

He said a lot more money would be spent on filling the tank and heating bills tomorrow. The cost of some things will also go up.

Macron said that the war in Ukraine marked the start of a new era in which war in Europe was a reality. But the cost will not only be felt in the short term.

“The war in Europe isn’t just something that you read about in history books anymore. It’s right here in front of you, too. Democracy is no longer safe. It is being challenged right in front of our eyes, “Macron said that.

There is more to Macron’s plan than just building new nuclear plants in France. He also wants the European Union to cut its dependence on Russian gas.
