Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam’s Chief Minister, announced Tuesday that employees of the state government could take a half-day off to see the movie “The Kashmir Files.”
Which is on the departure of Kashmiri Pandits from the Valley in the 1990s.
“Glad that we can announce that all Govt employees will be eligible for half-day special leave to view #TheKashmirFiles.” They will only need to inform their superior officers and submit the tickets on the next day, “Mr. Sarma stated in a tweet.
The chief minister and his entire cabinet had seen the movie earlier in the day. He said that the genocide committed by Kashmiri Pandits was a shame on humanity.
“The exodus of Kashmiri Pandits and the genocide that occurred to them is a shame on humanity. After watching #TheKashmirFiles, I was moved by the heartbreaking portrayal of their plight.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who praised Tuesday’s film for “bringing truth in its correct form,” said that history must be told in the right context.
Some other states joined Tuesday’s declaration of the film tax-free by the Uttar Pradesh government. The Kashmir Files were also exempted from Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Uttarakhand tax.
Anupam Kher stars alongside Mithun Chakraborty Pallavi Joshi in “The Kashmir Files.” Vivek Agnihotri wrote and directed the film.
