England wants the G7 “show of unity” in the fight against Russia regarding the Ukraine crisis.
England – The most affluent democracies of the world will be seeking to show a united front against Russian aggression on Ukraine.
Suppose Britain hosts a gathering with foreign ministers at Liverpool, located in the Northern English city of Liverpool.
The G7 meeting, attended personally by U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and his counterparts from France, Italy, Germany, Japan, and Canada, is taking place amid global concern that Russia might attack Ukraine. However, Russia is not planning an attack.
“What we have to do is deter Russia from taking that course of action,” British foreign minister Liz Truss told reporters ahead of the talks.
“What the G7 meeting this weekend .. is about, is about a show of unity between like-minded major economies, that we are going to be strong in our stance against aggression, against aggression concerning Ukraine.”
Ukraine has been at the center of a dispute in the East-West relationship in which it claims Russia of deploying the troops of tens of thousands to prepare for a large-scale military attack.
Russia has accused Ukraine and the United States of destabilizing behavior and has stated that it needs security assurances for its security.
As the current chairman of the G7, Britain has been urging their members to show more assertiveness in their defense of what it refers to as “the free world.”
This week Truss stated that she had said the “age of introspection” for the West was over and that it must be aware of the dangers of opposing ideologies.
Truss has pointed out the risks to the economy of Europe’s dependency on Russian gas and the greater security risk created to the world by Chinese technology as an example.
The G7 gathering is expected to produce a joint request for Iran to reduce its nuclear program and take advantage of the ongoing talks in Vienna to bring back a multilateral deal on its nuclear program.
Germany is the following country to take on the rotational G7 leadership position from Britain in the coming year will be expected to lay its 2022 program during the G7 meeting.
In addition, members from European Union, Australia, South Korea, and India will be present at a few sessions as guests to G7 and members from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
