The three remaining clubs in European Super League started their criticism of UEFA on Saturday. Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Juventus exchange offensive threats to each other to down opponents’ morale. Although, this is an ancient strategy to make rivals in early game pressure.
The other nine clubs that made up the ill-fated Super League three weeks ago agreed to a deal on Friday to be fined by UEFA and remain within the open structure of the Champions League.
“We regret to see that our friends and founding partners of the Superliga project have now found themselves in such an irregular and contradictory position by signing a series of commitments with UEFA yesterday,” Barcelona, Madrid, and Juventus said in a joint statement.
“We must act responsibly and persevere in finding appropriate solutions, despite the unacceptable and continuing pressure and threats received from UEFA.”
The trio runs the risk of being expelled from the Champions League. UEFA follows a disciplinary process against him for not repudiating the Super League and rejoining the existing system.
“The founding clubs have suffered, and continue to suffer, unacceptable pressure, threats, and violations from third parties to abandon the project. For this reason, they renounce their right and duty to provide solutions to the football ecosystem through concrete proposals and constructive dialogue” Barcelona, said Madrid and Juventus.
The Super League project failed after English clubs – Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City, and Tottenham – withdrew within 48 hours of last month following a backlash from fans and the British government.
The Premier League and Atlético de Madrid clubs, AC Milan and Inter Milan, officially signed an agreement with UEFA to participate only in existing open European competitions and agreed to give up 5% of revenue for one season Europe.
“We are fully aware of the diversity of reactions to the Superliga initiative and, consequently, of the need to reflect on the reasons for some of them,” said the rest of the Superliga clubs.
