After Rajdeep Sardesai, famous journalist Barkha Dutta is in trouble this time. Uttar Pradesh police have registered a case against eight Twitter handlers, including Barkha Dutt, for allegedly spreading false information. They have been accused of spreading false information about the deaths of two Dalit teenagers in Unnao. It is to be mentioned that a complaint has also been lodged against Rajdeep Sardesai a few days ago for tweeting falsely about the death of a farmer.
Apart from Barkha Dutt’s account, the other seven account holders in the case are Janajagaran Live, Azad Samaj Party spokesperson Suraj Kumar Boudh, Neelim Dutt, Vijay Ambedkar, Abhay Kumar Azad, Rahul Diwarkar, and Nawab Satpal Tanyar. An FIR has been lodged at the Kotwali police station in Uttar Pradesh.
Allegations of Spreading Fake News
“There are allegations of spreading false news against these Twitter accounts,” ASP Binod Kumar Pandey told PTI. According to the FIR, the alleged Twitter handles spread false information that the girls had been raped. But the autopsy report proved there was no rape. At the same time, these handles spread false information that Unnao police, like Hathras police, had buried two dead girls without the consent of the family.
Barkha Dutt’s response to the police allegation was, “This FIR has been lodged to intimidate. We, as journalists, only tried to cover all aspects of an event. ” “I am not afraid. I am ready to fight. ”
