Five people were arrested in Kutch and Banaskantha districts for animal brutality after videos surfaced of them assaulting a stray dog and torturing a bull on social media, police said.
The first incident, police said, was reported in the Anjar area of Gandhidham in Kutch, where two men, Sanjay Brijaniya and Manish Brijaniya, were arrested after CCTV footage surfaced of them allegedly assaulting a stray dog with sticks in a residential society in the village of Varshamedi. added the police.
Video of the alleged assault was presented to the police by animal rights activist Manish Devnani. “On Saturday, I received a video on my phone from another worker from my NGO, who informed me that a stray dog had been attacked in a society in the village of Varshamedi. Upon arriving at the scene, the residents of the society told me that the dog had been living in their society and had not disturbed any resident and yet the two defendants had attacked the animal without any provocation, as seen in the video. The dog had received serious injuries to the mouth and paws and had to be taken to an animal hospital for treatment, ”Devnani told The Indian Express on Sunday.
Upon learning, the police arrested the two defendants under section 429 of the IPC for mutilating an animal and sections of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act at Anjar Police Station in Kutch.
In another incident, three people were arrested for allegedly torturing a bull and filming a video in Amirgadh of Banaskantha on Saturday.
According to the police, the alleged video of the three men assaulting and torturing the animal by tying it to a tree had appeared on social media recently. The police have identified the defendants as Jiva Rabari, Deepabhai and Revabhai from Kapasia village in Amirgadh and registered them under section 429 of the IPC and sections of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
“After the video appeared on social media, a team visited the village and discovered that a bull had entered the farmland of the three men. Enraged, the trio tied the bull to a tree and assaulted him to the point that he began to bleed. The stray bull was not found in the village at the time of the investigation, ”said a police officer from the Amirgadh police station.
