'Ganguly Used to Make me Wait For The Toss Every Single Time'

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly and former England captain Nasser Hussain have had quite a few epic battles on the cricket ground, and while both of them are good friends, the former English captain admitted that he hated the Indian skipper for making him wait on the shake. But over time, Nasser has realized that the current BCCI president is a delightful person.

Speaking on the Star Sports Cricket Connected show, former England captain Nasser Hussain spoke about his Team India counterpart back then. “I’ve always said, and this is a generalization, but I’ve always said about Ganguly, who made India a tougher side. So, before Ganguly, there was a very talented side, but you felt it was also a nice side: very sensible, I would greet you with a greeting in the morning, Nasser in the morning, it was a very pleasant experience.

“Playing against a Ganguly team, you knew you were in a battle, you knew that Ganguly understood the passion of Indian cricket fans and it wasn’t just a game of cricket. It was more important than a game of cricket. He was a fighter and he chose players Cricket wrestlers, be it Harbhajan or Yuvraj or whoever, cricket wrestlers to the face, who when you met him out of the game, they were charming, personable. Sourav is like that.

“When I was playing Sourav, I hated him, he used to make me wait for the launch every time and I’ll say, Ganguly, it’s 10.30, we have to pitch.” But now I work with him for the last decade in comments, he’s so nice, calm, he’s still late for his comment periods, but he’s a lovely guy. And so should cricketers be. When you play with him or against him, you don’t like him and when you meet him later in life, they are good people.”
