Georgia boats collide kills 5 people.

Georgia boats collide: Authorities said Sunday that they had found the bodies of three people missing since two boats collided in Georgia the day before. 

This brought the total number of deaths to five. The U.S. Coast Guard says that four more people were saved on Saturday.

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources said that it was confirmed that two people had died on Saturday.

“Divers and sector scan sonar” were used to look for the three missing people, Georgia DNR said. Georgia DNR said that the three missing people were found around 9 a.m. Sunday in 14-foot-deep water and “close to each other.”

Christopher David Leffler, 51, Lori Lynn Leffler, 50, Zachary James Leffler, 23, Nathan Leffler, 17, and Robert Steven Chauncey, 37, were the five people who died.

On Sunday, the Georgia DNR said that Mark Christopher Stegall, 45, was arrested for boating while drunk.

Georgia DNR said in a statement that witnesses said the crash happened when “two center console boats carrying a total of nine people, six in one vessel and three in the other, we’re going in opposite directions when they hit.”

Georgia DNR said that the other four people were saved and taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries. 

According to the Coast Guard, one person is in “good condition,” according to the Coast Guard. No other details about how they were hurt were given. 

However, a video released by the Coast Guard shows that a helicopter had to pull someone out of the water because they had hurt their leg.

The accident happened at 10:30 a.m. on the Wilmington River near the Oatland Island Wildlife Center docks in Chatham County, where Richardson Creek and the Wilmington River meet. At 10:42 a.m., a good Samaritan told the Coast Guard about the crash.

The Coast Guard, the Department of Natural Resources, the Chatham County Marine Patrol, Savannah Fire, and the Chatham Emergency Services are all helping to look for the missing boaters.
