Goa considers dropping China firm from Rs 1,400-crore bridge project

Goa’s government is considering withdrawing a Chinese consulting firm from a Rs 1.4 billion rupee eight-lane bridge construction project across the Zuari river in southern Goa, officials said Monday.

The bridge, a prestigious project for the BJP-led government, owes its name to the late Prime Minister Manohar Parrikar. It is being built by Dilip Buildcon with Shanghai Tonggang Bridge technology that provides expertise in various aspects and materials.

Public Works Department Minister Deepak Pauskar said Monday that they will have to re-examine their import policies and the need for experience in light of the confrontation. The materials needed for the bridge are currently being imported from China.

“They (Chinese consultants) are expected to arrive, as they are supposed to be the experts who will examine parts of the work. In addition, the remaining 35% of the bridge requires material, which for now had to be imported from China, “said Puskar.

“We will speak to the Chief Minister about this for instructions. The development of our construction is obviously due to the betrayal of the Chinese army, and the country and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have decided to ban their products, “he said.” Then we will have to obtain materials and experience from other places. ”

Sources confirmed that construction would exceed its 2019 deadline. They said PWD also faces labor problems, as many have left the state in light of the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to PWD officials, while many workers have been kept in place on specific projects, the state is under pressure to meet deadlines due to a general lack of manpower.
