PCN Chairman Sharad Pawar on Sunday called the statements by former Chief Justice of India (CJI) and Rajya Sabha member Ranjan Gogoi on the judiciary “shocking and worrying.”

Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut said in Nashik that Gogoi’s statement should be taken seriously, adding that the former CJI should have explained with “examples from his tenure” why he thinks so.

Gogoi had reportedly said that the judiciary is in a “ramshackle” state and expressed concern over the handling of the cases.

Speaking on the sidelines of an event in Pune, Pawar said: “Last week, I read somewhere that the Prime Minister (Narendra Modi), in one of the meetings of the Supreme Court justices, declared that the standard of the judiciary Indian is very tall. We all feel good.

“But the statement made by the former Chief Justice of India, which has now been sent to Parliament, is a very shocking statement. I don’t know if he tried to explain the truth of the judiciary ”.

The patriarch of the PNC added that Gogoi’s statements are “worrying” for everyone.

Pawar was speaking to reporters at the ‘Khayal Yagya’ music event organized to celebrate the centenary of the birth of Pandit Bhimsen Joshi.

Speaking to reporters in Nashik, Sanjay Raut said Gogoi was making the comments after being in the judiciary for years.

Gogoi’s statements must be taken seriously. There is a precedent that the judiciary should not be criticized … If Gogoi had explained with examples during his term why he thinks that, the country would have been enlightened ”.

“But he is a member of Rajya Sabha with the blessings of BJP … You have been part of the judiciary for several years and after retirement, he says this,” added the Sena deputy.
