Google is bringing the Smart Compose feature to Google Messages, WhatsApp, and Telegram via the Gboard keyboard, according to a new report. This feature was detected in the beta version of Gboard, Android’s own native Google keyboard, with version 9.5.12.317844448. Just like Google suggests words and phrases in Gmail through Smart Compose, this feature was also seen in these messaging apps. As of now, the search giant hasn’t shared any information about the feature, and it’s unclear when it will appear in the stable version of Gboard.
According to a report By 9to5Google, the Smart Compose function was detected in the Google Messages, Telegram, and WhatsApp messaging apps. Google Smart Compose is based on Google’s autocomplete feature that suggests the following word or phrase reduce typing time and improve efficiency. When writing a message, when a suggestion appears, users can swipe right in the text to accept the suggestion. Smart Compose also allows users to adjust the suggestion after accepting it.
Since this feature is currently part of the Gboard beta, it will not be available to most users and to sign up for the beta, head over to the Google trial program page.
Smart Compose was first seen on Gmail in 2018 and Google has been improving it ever since. Late last year, the feature hit Google Docs for G Suite customers in beta, and it was finally made widely available to all G Suite customers in February of this year.
Google has not shared details on when the Smart Compose feature will hit the stable version of Gboard.
