Maharashtra govt will establish 3 Covid medical facilities In Mumbai Soon

In view of the sharp increase in COVID-19 cases, the Maharashtra government decided to establish three jumbo field hospitals in Mumbai in the next five to six weeks, the city’s civic chief Iqbal Singh Chahal said on Monday.

Each of these medical facilities will have a capacity of 2,000 beds, including 200 ICU beds and 70 percent oxygen beds, and will be installed in three different locations in the city, Chahal told reporters.

He said that they have also asked certain 4 and 5-star hotels to create CCC2 facilities (COVID-19 patient care centers), which will be “embedded and managed by professionals from the main private hospitals.”

The step has been taken to make more beds available to patients in need by moving those who have substantially recovered to the CCC2 facility, which will be managed by medical professionals, the BMC commissioner said.

On Sunday, Mumbai reported 9,986 new cases of viral infection and 79 deaths, bringing the number of cases to 5,20,498 and the death toll to 12,023.

Currently, there are 92,464 active COVID-19 cases in Mumbai, according to official data.

Chahal said the number of ICU beds in the city has increased to 2,466, with 325 new beds added at various hospitals.

According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) online bed allocation panel, there are 19,151 beds in 141 hospitals here.

Of the 19,151 beds, 3,777 beds in dedicated COVID-19 hospitals are currently vacant, Chahal said.

The BMC will operationalize an additional 1,100 beds, including 125 ICU beds, in these medical facilities over the next seven days, he said.

The civic body has also decided to appoint nodal officers for the accurate and more proactive operation of the 24 ward war rooms and jumbo field hospitals from 11 pm to 7 am, Chahal said.

“Nodal officers will work in two shifts, from 3 pm to 11 pm and from 11 pm to 7 am, both in the war rooms of the pavilions and in the jumbo field hospitals,” he said.

All labs testing for COVID-19 here have been instructed to prioritize swabs from symptomatic patients collected from homes and follow the new schedules assigned to them, he added.
