A Delhi police team arrested a 21-year-old climate activist in the Greta Thunberg ‘toolkit’ case on Saturday.
Police reportedly claimed that the activist, Disha Ravi, “shared” and “spread” the toolkit on the ongoing farmers’ protest, which was later mentioned by Thunberg in a tweet.
Disha is co-founder of Friday for the future, a global movement that questions political inaction on climate change.
According to a report by The news minute, the police have accused Disha of providing written material for the toolkit.
On February 4, an FIR was presented in this regard under the charges of sedition, criminal conspiracy and promotion of hatred. This is the first arrest made in the case.
Disha graduated from Mount Carmel College Bengaluru with a Bachelor of Business Administration. She works as a culinary experiences manager at Good Mylk company, and was working from home when she was detained by police, according to a report in The new Indian express.
At an earlier press conference, a senior Delhi police officer said the initial investigation linked the document to a pro-Khalistan group called the “Poetic Justice Foundation.”
According to the police, the “toolkit” has a particular section that mentions “digital strike via hashtags on January 26 or earlier, tweet storms on January 23 onwards, physical action on January 26 and beware or join to farmers marching to Delhi and back to the borders. “
The “toolbox” was aimed at spreading discontent and ill will against the Indian government and creating discord among various social, religious and cultural groups, police added.
On February 3, climate and environmental activist Greta Thunberg spoke out in support of the farmers’ ongoing protest on the Delhi borders against the Center’s new farm laws.
“We stand in solidarity with the #FarmersProtest in India,” he tweeted.
Thousands of farmers, mostly from Punjab, Haryana and western Uttar Pradesh, have been protesting on the borders of the National Capital for more than two months against the laws.
Demand that the government repeal the 2020 Agricultural Products Trade and Trade (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, the 2020 Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Guarantee and Agricultural Services, and the Essential Products (Amendment) Act, 2020.
