‘Gross misconduct’: Two University of Lahore students expelled after proposal video goes viral

Two students from the University of Lahore were expelled after a video of a female student proposing to her male classmate went viral on social media. In a letter issued Friday, the varsity team said the two students “were involved in serious misconduct and in violation of University rules.”

The video of the proposal shows the woman kneeling with a bouquet of roses in her hand, while a crowd of passers-by cheers her on. Her classmate, who seems to “accept” her proposal, is seen hugging her afterward.

According to the notification from the University, the two students did not attend a special disciplinary committee meeting to discuss the incident. The administration then decided to expel the students and ban them from any of the university’s campuses, Dawn reported.

“A Special Disciplinary Committee meeting was held on 3-12-2021 at 10:30 am in the Principal’s Office,” the notice reads, adding that the students did not appear before the committee after they were summoned.

“In addition, according to Section 16 […] They are prohibited from entering the premises of the University of Lahore and all its secondary campuses, ”the letter states. His expulsion sparked a Twitter storm, with several social media users criticizing the university for taking such a drastic step.
