Gujarat government will include Bhagavad Gita in the school syllabus for Class 6-12.
From the academic year 2022-23, the Bhagavad Gita will be included in the curriculum for classes 6-12 in all Gujarat schools, according to the state assembly.
During a debate on the education department’s budgetary allocations in the Legislative Assembly, Education Minister Jitu Vaghani made the news.
The decision to create Bhagavad Gita aligns with the Centre’s National Education Policy (NEP), which encourages students to learn about ancient and current cultures from an early age.
Later, Vaghani told reporters that people of all faiths had recognized the moral values and concepts stated in the ancient Hindu literature.
“As a result, we’ve chosen to include the Bhagavad Gita in the school curriculum for students in grades 6 through 12. The scripture will be introduced in the textbook ‘Sarvangi Shikshan’ for students in Classes 6 to 8. (holistic education). It will be taught in the first language textbook in the style of storytelling from Classes 9 to 12” he stated
According to him, schools will also hold activities based on the scripture, including prayers, shloka recitation, comprehension, theater, quizzes, art, and elocution competitions.
According to the minister, the government will send study materials such as books and audio-video CDs to schools.
