The Gujarat High Court, which refused to modify its June 20 order to suspend the Rath Yatra procession in Ahmedabad and other parts of Gujarat, heard multiple requests seeking to allow the procession with due restrictions until Monday by the night.
Even during the hearing, the Ahmedabad Police Commissioner Joint Commissioner (Traffic) office presented a route plan, stating that the 143rd Rath Yatra would take place as scheduled on Tuesday.
In a statement issued Monday night, Joint CP, Ahmedabad City (Traffic), J R Mothaliya mentioned the Rath Yatra route from Jamalpur Darwaza. The return trip, according to the statement, will follow a different route through Prem Darwaza and end at Jamalpur Darwaza overnight.
Hindu Yuva Vahini had moved a request for a three-car yatra along a shorter route. Another petition filed by the state seeking a modification to the previous HC order was pending a verdict long after midnight.
On Monday night Prime Minister Vijay Rupani, along with his wife Anjali and MoS Pradeepsinh Jadeja, went to the Jagannath temple in Jamalpur and announced that their government would submit a request to HC to carry out the yatra with any restrictions.
Another request was forwarded to the bank, seeking a modification of the order, which was awaiting a decision starting at midnight.
The NGO had requested that the absolute permanence in the procession be modified, to allow three cars to be removed. The bank headed by the chief justice of the Supreme Court, Vikram Nath, declined to receive the request and deleted it.
