Haiti flooding has left three dead and one missing: Officials.

The flooding in Haiti has resulted in three deaths and one missing. The head of Haiti’s civil protection agency informed Reuters on Tuesday after 2 days of heavy rain flooded the rivers and destroyed homes.

Rescue teams had on Monday began evacuating people living in high-risk areas following the floods that left thousands of homes submerged, and more than 250 families were displaced.

The northern part of the country was the most affected as water flooded the historic center within the capital city Cap-Haitien, and strong winds destroyed trees.

“We have three fatalities in the department of Nord-Ouest (Nord-Ouest department), and one person is missing,” wrote civil protection director Jerry Chandler in a text message.

Haiti is susceptible to natural disasters, mainly due to housing. In flood-prone areas, homes are usually too affluent and densely populated communities.
