The BCCI named Team India’s lineup on Wednesday for the forthcoming two-match T20I series against Ireland, which begins on June 26th at Malahide. Hardik Pandya will head the Indian squad, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been selected vice-captain.
Rahul Tripathi has also been added to the team. Hardik will lead India for the first time after his inaugural season as captain of the Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. He is now a side member for the upcoming five-match T20I series against South Africa.
During IPL 2022, the all-rounder led GT from the front, hitting 487 runs in 15 matches. During the competition, which finished with a triumph against Rajasthan Royals in the final, he also grabbed eight wickets.
Meanwhile, after missing out on selection for the South Africa T20Is, Maharashtra batsman Rahul Tripathi has received his first call-up.
Sanju Samson and Suryakumar Yadav will also return to the team.
Umran Malik, who received his first India call-up for the present South Africa series, has also been retained in the squad.
On June 26 and 28, India and Ireland will play two Twenty20 Internationals in Dublin.
India trail South Africa 1-2 in the current five-match series. After losing the previous two games, the young Indian team staged a remarkable comeback in the third T20I, winning 48 runs in Vishakhapatnam on Tuesday.
The fourth and fifth T20I will be contested on Friday and Sunday.
Due to the sixth and final Test against England, which will end the Test series from last year, a few prominent names are absent from the side, including captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Due to a Covid outbreak in the Indian camp, the fifth match had to be canceled.
From July 1 to 5, the sixth and final Test will be held at the Edgbaston in Birmingham.
