Historic Moment As Nigar Johar Becomes Pakistan Army's First Female Lieutenant General

Islamabad The Pakistan Army has appointed a female officer as a lieutenant general for the first time, the army media wing said on Tuesday.

Maj. Gen. Nigar Johar, who obtained the coveted position of a three-star general, was also named the first surgeon general in the Pakistan Army.

“She is the first female officer to be promoted to lieutenant general. The officer has been appointed as the first general surgeon of the Pak army, ”the general director of public relations between services (ISPR), Major General Babar Iftikhar tweeted.

Johar graduated from the Army Medicine College, Rawalpindi, in 1985 and joined the Army Medical Corps.

In 2017, she became the third female officer in the Pakistani Army to reach the rank of major general. The other two major generals were Shahida Badsha and Shahida Malik. Both her father and husband also served in the military.

PTI’s Faisal Javed Khan congratulated Major General Nigar Johar Khan on his promotion.

PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif also congratulated her and called it a powerful message for women to achieve the impossible in life.
