Australia beat Pakistan in a 119-run win on Thursday (January 28) to be the third team in
the ICC Under 19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2022 Super League semi-finals.
England and Afghanistan joined them in the last four after 119 runs when a bat first was the norm for the entire day.
The United Arab Emirates set an objective that went beyond host West Indies on their way
to the Plate semi-final victory.
At the same time, Uganda scored a win of 35 runs during the Plate play-off semi-finals
against Papua New Guinea.
Australia secured their spot in the ICC Under 19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2022 Super
League semi-finals with a victory of 119 against Pakistan due to some impressive top-order
cricket.
Half-centuries from Teague Wylie and Corey Miller and 47 from Campbell Kellaway helped.
Australia scored 276/7 from their 50 overs. This was far more than Pakistan at Antigua.
Despite a 50-run partnership at the third wicket, Pakistan could never catch up in the chase
and then fell to 157, all out with doors shared between players from the Australian bowlers.
Pakistan took the lead in the toss and chose to field. However, they quickly regretted their
the decision as Kellaway and Wylie (71) played 86 for the first wicket.
His bowling caught Kellaway by Qasim Akram (3-40); However, that was enough to bring
Miller into the middle. Miller accelerated his run rate up to 64.
Their run of 101 was ended with the help of Awais Ali. Ali Wylie bowled. Miller is next to
leave Australia at 203-3 with just under ten runs left.
The skipper Cooper Connolly chipped in with 33 while William Salzmann smashed an
explosive 25 from 14 of the ball from No.7 to establish a challenging score.
It was soon apparent that the game was over Pakistan and that Muhammad Shehzad and
Haseebullah Khan were both being caught behind, leaving their side with 27 for 2 in the
fifth over.
Abdul Faseeh (28) and Irfan Khan (27) began to build after being taken by Salzmann (3-37), after which the wickets were dropped at regular intervals until the end of the match.
Australia will now play who will win the Super League quarter-final between India and
Bangladesh’s defending champions on Saturday.
