India and the United States have made a small but important step. They want to look into the possibility of Indian shipyards not only maintaining but also fixing American navy ships.
Adding more business to Indian shipyards is expected to help the trade between India and the United States.
The decision was made during the India-US 2+2 ministerial meeting in Washington, D.C., on Monday.

In the United States, Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin were in charge of the American delegation.
Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh were also in charge of the Indian contingent.
Indian shipyards could be used to repair and maintain ships from the US Maritime Sealift Command (MSC) during mid-voyage repairs, says the joint statement from the 2+2 meeting.
Over the last decade, there has been a lot more cooperation between the Indian and American militaries, especially between the armies in the Indo-Pacific.
Military Sealift Command ships are made up of a core group of ships owned by the United States Navy and a group of short-term or voyage-chartered ships.
