Indians Hockey Team Drops in FIH Ranking to Fifth Place

The Indian men’s hockey team fell one place to fifth in the FIH world rankings released on Monday, despite their two victories against Olympic champions Argentina in Pro League matches.

India recorded a sweeping 3-0 victory over Argentina on Sunday in Buenos Aires in the second game of the FIH Pro League. The team led by Manpreet Singh had also won the first match on a penalty shootout on Saturday.

But, the Indian team dropped a notch from the fourth place it occupied in the January ranking, although it accumulated more points, 2223.458, than the previous graph, 2064.10.

Reigning European and World Champions Belgium (2602.31 points) sit atop ahead of 2019 FIH Hockey Pro League winners Australia (2489.53).

Germany’s recent good form in the FIH Hockey Pro League, where they have recorded double away victories against the Netherlands and Argentina in recent weeks, has seen them rise from sixth to third place in the standings. Germany now has 2253.48 points.

The Netherlands (2232.55) is in fourth place, followed by Argentina (1923.42) in sixth place, England (1836.85), New Zealand (1680.08), Spain (1653.86), and Canada (1517, 36).

In the women’s ranking, the Indian team is ninth with 1643.00 points, the same position as in the previous table.

The Netherlands (2772.08 points) have extended their lead over second-place Argentina (2235.59), strengthening their position in first place thanks to two FIH Hockey Pro League victories against Germany in March.

Germany (2153.30) remains in the third position, rebounding from their two losses to the Dutch in Amstelveen by claiming a draw and a win against top-ranked Argentina in Buenos Aires earlier this month.

Australia (2,112.90) ranks fourth, with England (2,052.38) and New Zealand (1920.84) fifth and sixth, respectively. Spain (1902.12) is in seventh place, while Ireland (1683.08) and China (1621.00) are in eighth and tenth respectively.
