Virat Kohli had left the cricket world in shock on Saturday when he announced that he was
quitting the India Captaincy of the test format.
The star batsman announced via social media that India fell in the three-match series to
South Africa 1-2. A former Pakistan speedster Mohammad Amir took to Twitter to thank
Virat Kohli for his impressive time being India Captain of the Test team.
Amir declared that Virat Kohli is a “true leader” and an “inspiration for young cricketers.”
“@imVkohli brother, for me, you are a true leader of the upcoming generation in cricket
because you are the inspiration for young Cricketers.
So keep rocking on and of the field,” wrote Amir on Twitter.
Kohli is among India’s top Test captains regarding the number of victories over the
lengthiest format. Kohli was captain of India in 68 Tests, having won 40 times and a
winning percentage of 58.82.
Under Kohli’s leadership in 2018, India scripted history by becoming the first Asian team to
win an unbeaten series in Australia.
Under his direction, India also stayed on the top in the ICC Test Rankings for consecutive
years and even reached the end of the ICC World Test Championship in 2021.
But, India fell into New Zealand in the WTC final against New Zealand.
Kohli is also an excellent record in his home country as captain and has led the team to 24
victories in just 31 matches. He also lost only two games.
India will host their next test match with Sri Lanka, and the BCCI is now tasked with
choosing a new captain to lead the Indian team that will play in one of the most lengthy
formats.
