Iran Guards arrest diesel-smuggling foreign ship in Gulf: According to the Iranian official news agency IRNA, Iran‘s elite Revolutionary Guards have detained a foreign vessel in the Gulf for allegedly smuggling 757,000 liters of fuel out of the country.
IRNA said that the seven foreign crew members of the nameless vessel had turned over to the appropriate authorities without going into any detail on the nationalities of the ship or its crew.
Iran, which has among the lowest gasoline prices in the world due to significant government subsidies and the sharp decline in the value of its currency, has been battling widespread petroleum smuggling by land to its neighbors and by sea to Gulf Arab governments.
In recent months, the Guards have seized many ships smuggling petroleum into the Gulf.
