India Thump Sri Lanka In 1st T20I

Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer scored the fifties as the bowling team of both helped India beat Sri Lanka in the first T20I at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Thursday.

With this 62-run victory against Sri Lanka, India took a 1-0 lead in this T20I series. The two teams will now engage in the subsequent T20I this Saturday.

After chasing 200, Sri Lanka got off the worst possible way and took two wickets in three overs. Bhuvneshwar took Pathum Nissanka and Kamil Mishara while Sri Lanka struggled in the chase.

In the tenth round, Sri Lanka reached the 50-run mark, but they lost two more wickets.

Charith Asalanka scored 50 for the hosts; however, the price was far too high to ask for, as Sri Lanka lost momentum.

Sri Lanka needed 102 runs in the final four overs, and the hosts were utterly beaten in the first T20I when they were defeated significantly.

After being put to bat first in the early innings, India started with an explosive start when Ishan’s burst of boundaries allowed the hosts to get to 47 in just five overs.

It was a strong start for India in the powerplay as Rohit Sharma and Ishan scored 58 on the powerplay.

Rohit and Ishan continued to fire until Lahiru Kumara snubbed Rohit during the 12th over when India hit 111/1.

In the meantime, Ishan continued slogging and scored India’s score above 150 runs, but, Shanaka dismissed him in the 17th ball.

In the final innings, Shreyas and Ravindra Jadeja made an unbeaten stand of 44 runs to assist India to achieve a record-breaking total of 200/2.
