According to J&K police, a cordon search operation was started in the Zadibal area of Srinagar after receiving information about the presence of militants in the area.
Four militants, including a Pakistani citizen, were killed in two separate meetings in the Jammu and Kashmir districts Srinagar and Kulgam in the past 24 hours, a senior police official said Sunday.
Among the murdered militants was Shakoor Farooq Langoo who, according to police, was involved in the murder of two BSF staff members in the Soura area on May 20 this year.
According to J&K police, a cordon search operation was started in the Zadibal area of Srinagar after receiving information about the presence of militants in the area.
“During the search operation, the terrorists were called on by family members and community members to surrender, but instead began to fire indiscriminately, leading to an encounter,” said a spokesman for the policeman.
Security forces returned from the meeting place in Srinagar on Sunday.
Mobile internet services were suspended in view of the operation.
In addition to Langoo, the murdered militants have been identified as Shahid Ahmad Bhat of Semthan Bijbehara in Anantnag and Mohsin, a resident of the Anchar area, who has been missing since last month.
“According to police records, Langoo was involved in the deaths of two BSF staff members in Soura on May 20 and the stolen AK rifle belonging to the late Jawan was recovered from the site of the meeting,” said the police spokesman.
Police also said that a murdered militant killed in the Kulgam meeting has been identified as a foreigner.
“In an operation that was launched on Saturday night in the Likhdipora village of the Kulgam district, a terrorist was killed. He was identified as Tayab Waleed, aka Imran Bhai aka Gazi Baba, a Pakistani citizen affiliated with the banned JeM terror team, “said the police spokesman.
“According to police records, he was JeM’s operational commander and was an expert in making IEDs as well as being a strong shooter. Weapons and ammunition, including an AK rifle, an M-4 carbine, a pistol, and other incriminating material were recovered from the meeting site, “the spokesman said.
The security force eliminated 31 militants in June, while 105 ultras have been killed this year so far.
