Jonny Bairstow, an English batsman, may have fractured his left leg while playing golf on Friday, and he has been ruled out of the Twenty20 World Cup and the third Test against South Africa.
The 32-year-old stumbled as she approached a tee box and will visit a doctor to determine the severity of her injuries.
Bairstow said on his Instagram that he would need surgery.
Ben Duckett of Nottinghamshire has been introduced to the lineup for the pivotal test at Kia Oval.
The Yorkshireman, who remains an essential member of England’s white-ball sides, has been in outstanding form in 2022, amassing 1,061 runs and six hundred in 10 Test matches.
Earlier on Friday, England’s managing director, Rob Key, announced that Bairstow would be opening the batting in the T20 World Cup in Australia, which starts for England on October 22.
The England and Wales Cricket Board has confirmed that a successor for the 15-man squad must be sought and that a statement will be issued in due time.

Alex Hartley, a former England spinner, said on BBC Two: “It’s heartbreaking news because he has performed well for England this summer. It is such a setback for England, but more significantly for Bairstow, to suffer a fluke injury while playing golf.”
Harry Brook, a teammate from Yorkshire, maybe in a position to make his Test debut against South Africa in Bairstow’s absence.
The 23-year-old has been a member of the England team all summer long and will now square off against left-hander Duckett for a spot in the starting lineup.
Another possibility to take Bairstow’s position in the World Cup roster is Duckett, 27. He is one of three hitters in the traveling group who were not picked for the tournament team and will play Pakistan later in September.
The other two are Will Jacks, 23, of Surrey, and Jordan Cox, 21, of Kent. Jason Roy, who was included among the initial 15 players, might yet be in line for a prompt recall.
