The contract of the 51-year-old was due to expire June, June. Cricket Australia (CA) said that he had refused an extension of a few days.
He was appointed to the position in the year 2018 following the ball-tampering scandal in Australia with South Africa but left with both the T20 World Cup and The Ashes.
The day before, England’s interim director of cricket, Andrew Strauss, refused to rule out the possibility of Langer becoming Chris Silverwood’s successor.
Silverwood was dismissed as England’s director of cricket and selector of the leadership team on Thursday following England’s 4-0 defeat by Australia in the winter’s Ashes series.
Langer’s management team said the resignation of Langer was “effective as of immediately,” leaving behind months of debate over whether he would remain in his role as Australia the head coach.
In announcing his resignation, CA Chief Nick Hockley stated: “We are naturally disappointed Justin has decided not to continue as a coach; however, we appreciate his decision and wish him the best in his future.
“Justin has been a great coach for the Australian men’s soccer team over the last four years. He has restored confidence in the group, and his legacy is secure. ”
The manager of the Langer team, James Henderson, had earlier tweeted: “As a player, Justin was a winner after the five-point Ashes whitewash.
Despite the opinion of a small group of people, Langer is completing his tenure as an Australian cricket coach by winning the T20 World Cup and the Ashes.
It is important to remember what JL was doing in 2018 when he took over. ”
Langer was replaced by Darren Lehmann, who resigned following the ball-tampering scandal which affected cricket.
It also resulted in the captain Steve Smith and vice-captain David Warner being banned and fired for a year due to their role in the scandal, and the batsman Cameron Bancroft was suspended for nine months.
The Dynamic Sports and Entertainment Group (DSEG) announced its resignation on Twitter after the meeting of Langer with Cricket Australia on Friday.
“DSEG affirms our clients Justin Langer has this morning presented his resignation as the coach of the Australian cricket team for men,” the group said.
“The resignation follows a discussion in which I met with Cricket Australia last evening. The resignation becomes effective immediately. ”
Andrew McDonald, who was assistant coach, was named interim head coach.
He is expected to coach Australia’s male team as they travel to Pakistan to play for the first time after decades in March.
The teams are scheduled to play three tests, three one-day internationals, and one T20 match in Karachi, Rawalpindi, and Lahore.
